Restology Labs Double Footrest
I just ordered the Double Footrest from Restology Labs and in this video I'd like to show it to you, try a couple different ways to use them, and offer some initial feedback.
The conventional use for this item is mostly for sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and elevating one's feet for additional comfort. I purchased the set for that purpose, but my main reason for wanting to try these was my classical guitar playing.
I will use this for my extended sessions of seat work throughout the week. I am a doctorate student and I read and wright for long periods of time every week, sitting at a table. These footrests are a great way to keep my legs and feet comfortable.
As a classical guitarist, I've tried many different ways to hold the instrument over the years: traditional guitar footstool, a frame support, suction cup support, almost every single innovation that has been introduced on the market. Because of back pain and shoulder/arm discomfort, the traditional guitar footstool did not work well for me.
Throughout my college years as a guitar student, and a few years after, I used a guitar footstool, and struggled with back pain and shoulder/arm pain, so I eventually changed the holding position of the instrument. I now hold the instrument on my right lap instead of the left, and it usually feels like my right foot/leg needs to be elevated about 2" above the ground. I've used different things for this: a 2X4, a very low household item that is 2" inches tall, and usually nothing at all. If you've lately seen one of the Assad brothers holding his instrument on his right lap, with actually nothing under his foot, that is the sort of position I'm going for.
I bought this set of Restology Labs Footrests to try using one of them for my practice sessions at home. In this video I demonstrate a couple different uses for this and I share a few initial thoughts.
Do I recommend this item? Absolutely.
If you need something comfortable for long periods of seat work, this will work great. If you hold the guitar like I do, this will work great under your right foot. It will lift your foot about 2" off the ground. The thickness of the item is much bigger, but this is soft foam and the weight of your leg is going to push it down some.
