“What Child Is This” solo guitar

Every Christmas season, I like to make at least one arrangement of a Christmas hymn or carol for solo classical guitar.

This year, I arranged the well known “What Child Is This”. It took me a couple weeks to get it done, but it was well worth it. The original tune was titled “Greensleeves” and comes from the Renaissance period. It was not a religious song at all, and it was certainly not a Christmas song, but Christians adopted it and adapted it :-) a few centuries later and named it “What Child Is This”.

I made the arrangement in the key of A minor and I placed the main tune in the bass strings. Also, I am playing those bass melody notes with the back of my index finger, not with the thumb, and also not with the part of the fingernail we usually use when playing free strokes or rest strokes. The resulting sound resembles very much the sound you hear when someone plays with a pick.

I hope you like this arrangement.
