Year 2021 In Review
I thought it appropriate that my first blog post in here would be a quick review of my musical activities in the year 2021. It wasn’t the best of years, with a full-blown pandemic and such limited in-person musical activities, but virtual online activities certainly kept things alive.
As a Music teacher, the 2020-2021 school year was done completely on Zoom and Canvas. Not the best way to teach and interact with students, but still better than nothing at all. We learned to adjust and made the best of it, in spite of it being one of the most difficult years in the last few decades. We even ended up creating an full length virtual school concert that we were able to share with the school community.
As a church musician, my activities did not really slow down, though they were quite different in nature. My home church never closed its doors and we continued to offer online services during the most difficult months, which meant that I was one of the very few individuals that were allowed in the sanctuary due to the strict restrictions.
As a freelance musician, my activities were pretty much limited to my YouTube channel. I posted more frequently than before and created quite a few tutorials which I never would have had time for under more normal circumstances. Look at the end of this article for a 2021 “In Review” video on my YouTube channel.
As things are quickly clearing up and musicians can come out of their practice room once again, I am looking forward to finding some performance opportunities this summer. Not so much concerned about generating an income out of it … just wanting to get out there and play my music for any audience that is willing to sit down and listen.
Here’s hoping for a much better year in 2022.
