Book Review “Forever Employable” by Jeff Gothelf

“Forever Employable” by Jeff Gothelf is a book written for people that want to keep themselves relevant in their area of expertise. The subtitle “How To Stop Looking for Work and Let Your Next Job Find You” suggests that some of the readers might be looking for a new job or a new career, but this is not the only target audience in the author’s mind.

Gothelf offers five things anyone can do to ensure they remain relevant and sought after in their area of expertise:

  1. Plant A Flag

  2. Tell Your Story

  3. Follow The (New) Path

  4. Teach

  5. Give It All Away

Some things I liked about the book included the fact that the author is very specific. This is not a blah book. You’ll learn very specific things and you’ll have lots of specific things to try out right away. I also liked the deep insight found on all the pages.

Some things I did not like so much included the fact that there didn’t seem to be any original material. Everything in the book seems to have been written by someone else in some other book on the topic. I also thought the price was quite steep - this is a 90 page book and it is softcover. When you hold it in your hand, it feels more like a booklet. The author does offer some worksheets available for digital download, but those are still not printed in the book. For a book of this size and length, I would expect a price at around $8.99 maybe.
